MIGI Rapper Controller Upgrade in Biomass Plant
Application
Industry: Biomass
ESP OEM: Thermax
Process: Power Generation from bagasse
Country: Thailand
Problem
The plant is located in northeastern Thailand and its ESP has been operating since 2012. Not only some MIGI rappers were disabled and not able to dislodge dust that caused dust build-up, but also its PLC software / program in the controller was obsolete. The thicker the dust accumulated on the surface of ESP internal parts, the more the spark occurred and led to ESP trip. The plant was not able to perform certain adjustment to the controller and experienced difficulty in getting in touch with the equipment supplier to help them do so.

Solution
Tai & Chyun has been awarded for the supply of new ERC1001 MIGI rapper controller panel including installation supervision and training. In addition to our engineer being on site to supervise during installation and commissioning, we provided customer training for proper operation and maintenance.

Benefit
The new ERC1001 MIGI rapper controller has its own independent control system that provides individual rapping control as well as MMI display connection where parameters can be conveniently adjusted. Operator can track and adjust each rapping group raps time to properly respond to loading condition of the ESP. New features on the controller can prevent re-entrainment from happening inside the ESP, and opacity from spiking by controlling selected rappers to not rap at the same time. With more rapping functions and easy to control feature either locally or remotely, the new controller brings to our customer the ease of operating their ESP more efficiently.
T/R set rating | Before** | After 1 month installation** | |
Field 1 | 66.6kV / 600mA | 38kV / 139mA | 47kV / 149mA |
Field 2 | 77.5kV / 700mA | 34kV / 159mA | 40kV / 219mA |
Field 3 | 88.5kV / 800mA | 29kV / 170mA | 38kV / 380mA |
**The operating ratings shown in the above table were the limit of T/R to save energy and cost. At this rating, ESP would be able to operate without emission from the stack.
