ESP Rehabilitation at Pulp & Paper Plant in Taiwan

Application

Industry: Pulp & Paper

ESP OEM: Hitachi

Process: 40-ton Power Boiler / Incinerator

Country: Changhua, Taiwan

Problem

The ESP is single-chambered with 3 mechanical fields, however, only the first 2 fields were filled with internal parts whereas the last field was left empty. It collects fly ash from the 40-ton incinerator and has been in operation since 1998. Its internal parts had been rehabilitated back in 2007 due to severe corrosion. Fifteen years later, the condition of internal parts degraded over time and led to poor dust collection performance of the ESP. As a result, the baghouse following the ESP suffered a high dust loading and thus its service life was shortened considerably. The frequent disposal of filter bags has become costly due to government’s strict regulations on proper treatment. Therefore, the plant’s intention were to rehabilitate the ESP in order to restore its dust collection efficiency so to reduce the frequency of filter bag replacement and disposal.

Solution

Rehabilitation of corroded CE, DE and rapping system in the first 2 fields were conducted including patching of corroded inlet duct, replacement of DE support frame and support insulators. Dismantling and lifting procedures were carefully planned beforehand in order to minimize the installation time. Lifting works even started from 5 am in order to avoid strong wind. Installation was completed within 15 days during shutdown period.

Benefit

After rehabilitation, outlet emission was measured at 39mg/Nm3 which successfully achieved emission guarantee of under 80mg/Nm3 per customer’s request.
