Application
Sonic Horn (SH) was installed at inlet field of Recovery Boiler ESP unit 1 at Pulp and Paper Plant in South Sumatera, Indonesia.
Problem
This plant has been operating since 1993 and experiencing dust buildup issue around the inlet area near Gas Distribution Screen especially at the bottom of the ESP.

Solution
To overcome this problem, Tai & Chyun suggested installing three (3) sets of Sonic Horn. All three Sonic Horns were installed inside the penthouse of ESP 1 during the shutdown period in November 2017. The exact location is between Gas Distribution Screen (GD Screen) and Inlet Area. According to later observations during shutdown in the following year proved that Sonic Horn installed in ESP 1 has helped reduce dust buildup that usually occurred around the inlet area near GD Screen especially at the bottom of ESP 1.
The following are before and after Sonic Horn installation in ESP 1 photos:

During shutdown period in the following year, Tai & Chyun team carried out a comparison between ESP that uses Sonic Horn (ESP 1) and one that doesn’t (ESP 2) as shown below. It was observed as a whole that ESP 1 has a tendency to accumulate less dust than ESP 2.

Benefit
Sonic Horn has proved its effectiveness in reducing dust buildup that occurs not only in the inlet area near the bottom of the GD Screen, but also in the proximity to where the Sonic Horn has been installed, as in the suspension beam area in this case. The Magnum type Sonic Horn installed in this plant has been verified to effectively reach up to a radius of> 5 meters (width) and> 15 meters (length) of dust cleaning capacity. Based on the success of ESP 1, the customer also decided to install Sonic Horn in ESP 2 at the same position.
